Justyna Profaska
Justyna Profaska is an architect and a PhD Candidate in Landscape and
Environment at La Sapienza University of Rome. Her thesis, titled ‘Virtual
Landscapes’ explores the significance of nature in the contemporary society
through the analysis of artistic manifestations. The research unveils the topic
of landscape as social construct, operating within the realm of visual arts as
a subject, medium, and potential field for action.
She holds Msc in architecture form Poznan University of Technology and
studied abroad at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and Sapienza
University of Rome. She worked for Wenzel+Wenzel Freie Architekten and
Studio Fuksas in Rome.
After winning the Ph.D fellowship she shifted her focus towards educational
and theoretical pursuits. In 2023 she organised multidisciplinary panel
‘Triggering the change: collective action in the landscape’. The same year she
was a speaker on the international conference ‘Uncertain Landscapes’ in
Porto addressing architectural and landscape discourse. In 2024 she
conducted her research on PhD thesis in the archive of Harald Szeemann at
Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles, CA.
